Today we are learning about one of our animals of the month- horses! I like to teach the children about an animal that corresponds with the letter they are learning (H), and if possible, an animal common to the area. Children learn about nature best by beginning with the surrounding geographical nature and expanding outward later.
We learned that horses are strong, and often gentle. You can ride a horse, race a horse, feed a horse, and do many other things with horses. Some horses live on farms and others are wild (although not very many anymore). Horses can be many colors, usually shades of brown, white, or black. Horses have a mane and tail and some are miniature.
We explored horses on National Geographic Kids and watched a video of some of the last wild horses left in America. We also read some books about horses and colored some pictures, and made our National Geographic information card.
